Description

This guide explains how to access the Gradebook in your course, navigate its main sections, and understand what your grades, category weights, and course status mean.

 Before you start

  • You must be enrolled in an active course.

  • You need access to your course learning environment.

Your instructor must have the Gradebook enabled.

Procedure

Step 1. Access the Gradebook

  1. Enter the course.

  2. Locate the main navigation menu on the left-hand panel.

  3. Select the Gradebook option.

See Image 1: Location of the Gradebook in the course navigation menu.

NOTE: If the Gradebook is not visible, your instructor may have disabled it.

Step 2a. Understand the main Gradebook sections

At the top of the Gradebook, you may see tabs such as in the image below:

See Image 2a: Gradebook main view and available tabs.

NOTE: The Gradebook view depends on the type of course the student is enrolled in. In OLLA courses, the Portfolio is displayed, while in OMA courses, the Assessments are shown.

Step 2b. Review overall course progress and score (Overview tab)

  1. Select the Overview tab.

  2. Review your progress towards completing the required course items.

  3. Review your average scores. Keep in mind that this percentage is calculated only using activities that have already been graded.

See Image 2b: Grades organized by category and weight in the Overview tab.

NOTE: If there are pending or ungraded activities, the percentage may appear incomplete or display dashes (–).

Step 2c. Review grades by category

  1. Review the different course categories (for example: Knowledge Checks, Activities, Portfolio, or Assessment).

  2. Within each category, you will be able to see:

    • The activities included

    • The score obtained

    • The weight of each category toward the final grade

This view helps you identify areas where you are performing well and areas that may need improvement.

How to interpret the indicators and statuses

Within the Gradebook, each activity may display different visual indicators:

  • ✔️ Check mark: Completed activity.

  • ⭕ Empty circle: Pending activity.

  • – Dash: Activity not submitted or not yet graded.

These indicators help you track your progress and avoid missing assignments.

See Image 2c: Assignment status indicators in the Gradebook.

Step 3. Finish the course

  1. Upon finishing the course content or after you receive notification that you are able to finish the course (e.g., submit your Portfolio), select the Finish Course tab.

  2. Review and confirm the statements..

  3. Select Submit All Assignments.

See Image 3: Final course grade and completion status.

NOTE: The final grade updates automatically once all activities have been graded.
